“Das Krokodil” — the Crocodile. (With Pigeon!)

LANDSCHAFTSPARK, DUISBURG-NORD. GERMANY
Thursday 17th September 2026

This imposing piece of machinery forms part of the enormous loading bridge known locally as “Das Krokodil” — the Crocodile — at Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord in Germany. Built in 1925, the travelling machinery moved along the bridge, transferring iron ore and other raw materials into the storage bunkers that supplied the site’s blast furnaces.

The former Thyssen Meiderich Ironworks produced pig iron from 1903 until its closure in 1985. Much of the site and its machinery has been preserved, leaving a remarkable industrial landscape where rust, decay and nature now occupy a place once dominated by heat, noise and heavy production.

Pigeon for scale 🙂
